Age Friendly Parking Initiative

The "Age Friendly Parking" initiative launched by Arklow Municipal District is designed to help older people get around Arklow town more easily.

Age Friendly parking bays are similar to mother and baby car parking spaces in supermarkets and they are subject to normal parking fees. Motorists are asked to respect these courtesy spaces and leave them free for older people in the community who need them.

There are currently six Age Friendly parking bays with clear signage: 

• St Mary’s Car Park on the Main Street
• Castle Park Car Park. 
• Others will be opened in the coming months

Arklow Municipal is calling on supermarkets, shopping centres, and any business with customer parking to designate Age Friendly parking for older people.

Cathaoirleach of Arklow Municipal District, Cllr Miriam Murphy, said, “It’s good to see the local authority responding to issues raised by the citizens of the town and I hope other car park providers will see the benefits of these spaces and introduce them as well.”
