Glen Fuels Bray

Homes and businesses in Bray have been serviced by our Kilmacanogue depot since 1986. Patricia joined Glen Fuels when we first opened and she snapped this picture of another long standing employee, Ken, driving past Bray Town Hall en-route back to the depot while stopping off to make deliveries.

Bray Town Hall

It's a lovely picture of Bray Town Hall at the top of Main Street, which was built in Tudor Revival style and commissioned by the eleventh earl of Meath’s son and heir, Reginald Brabazon, Lord Ardee, who wished to express an interest in the town where his father was lord of the manor and the main ground landlord. In 1879 he offered to build a covered market house at a cost of £4,000—Bray's previous market house was demolished some 40 years earlier.

The red brick was locally made and the pitched roof is tiled while the two-storey portion facing Main Street is surmounted by a tall copper-clad fleche complete with clock. The Brabazon family left their stamp with 30 stained-glass windows displaying the arms of the Brabazons and their wives from Norman times onwards. Outside, the north front also has relief carvings of their coats of arms on the gables, while the drinking fountain is crowned by a wyvern, a mythological winged dragon from the Brabazon coat of arms.
