Farm Machinery on Irish Roads

There are 137,500 farms in Ireland and with the nation holidaying at home this summer, it is highly likely you will find yourself sharing the road with farm machinery.

This is particularly pertinent during the month of August, when farmers are working against the clock to bring the harvest in.

Every year the IFA and RSA make a joint appeal for users to share the roads responsibly.

Road Safety Ireland

The Glen Fuels Stay Safe message for the month of July comes to you from professional oil delivery driver, Jason Hill

"As a professional driver I have seen a number of very near accidents in recent weeks.

"If you are sharing the road with farm machinery or an oil delivery truck, please stay well back to give the driver the time and space required to maneuver these vehicles into tight openings. In order to turn left into a field, the driver must swing out to the right. Too often, motorists then try to undertake the vehicle. This results in an accident or near miss that causes a backlog of traffic, which delays absolutely everyone on the road.

"If you are driving farm machinery on the road, please remember to indicate so that motorists, bikers, cyclists and walkers know where you are going."
