Ewe and Lambs Ireland Dog Attacks

Hiking in Ireland

As the weather brightens, the days lengthen and we start to stretch our legs please remember that lambing season has arrived all over Ireland.

During Covid many Irish homes welcomed dogs into the family. As dog lovers ourselves, and as experienced hikers and farmers; the Glen Fuels Family urges all dog walkers/hikers to keep their dogs - of all shapes and sizes - on a lead at all times up the hills during this very delicate time for ewes and their young.

There are many walks throughout all counties in Ireland where dogs can run free without risking lives. The higher up the hills you go while Hiking Ireland, the greater the risk to livestock and livelihoods.

This might sound extreme but over Christmas 30 sheep were killed due to a dog attack. To read the full article (graphic images) by Mountaineering Ireland and Irish Farmers Journal, click here.

Animal Welfare Ireland

This is an important aspect of animal welfare in Ireland. Never assume your dog isn't capable of causing harm.
